Guild Wars and MMO

You know, I really like Guild Wars. I swallowed up all the hype surrounding the game and I was so excited about it (I'm cheap, I can't afford subscriptions), and when it came out- Ascalon was so beautiful with its rolling peaceful green hills and snowy mountains way off in the distance. To this day, Guild Wars is still the most beautiful game I've ever played... more beautiful than even Far Cry, which is more beautiful than Crysis.

I stopped playing a long time ago, when Guild Wars felt like a grind, and it seemed like there was no future in it. I didn't buy any expansions or new campaigns, either... but I'm getting excited again over Guild Wars 2, and what seems to be in store for it.

I've been reading a lot about what the developers have to say and, well, if they are able to implement all the things they want to, I think it will be a huge treat... along with their amazing artistry in painting the world. The biggest changes I'm looking forward to are the persistence, and the notion that they want to push the MMO genre forward by creating a great world in which players are given the tools to create their own epic tales, something that was lost in the previous generations of MMO's.

ArenaNet will push forward, changing the face of the entire genre as the industry knows it, with other companies trailing after it, adopting their models after seeing the success. ArenaNet will continue to innovate and strive toward their goal, working to create that perfect social fantasy gaming nirvana... and at the end of their road, after all their long, hard work, they will finally reach it... and find a plaque that reads: "Gary Gygax was here. -1974-"
